We Scan More Than Just Roofs
Kestro analyzes every visible exterior surface on a property - roofs, driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, and building exteriors. Each surface goes through its own detection path, tuned for the materials and stain types unique to that surface.
Roof Detection
HSV Dark-Pixel Analysis
We isolate roof pixels by filtering out vegetation, sky, shadows, water, and saturated objects like cars or pools. Then we analyze the remaining pixels using HSV color space to identify dark staining patterns.

Flatscape Detection
Concrete Surface Analysis
Driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, and patios are bright, low-saturation surfaces. We isolate them separately from roofs and analyze for algae growth, oil spots, and general darkening that indicates cleaning opportunity.
- Targets bright, low-saturation concrete and stone surfaces
- Detects green algae, oil stains, and general grime buildup
- Accounts for normal surface darkening vs. actual staining
- A property qualifies if either surface scores moderate or above
Four Bands. Two Make the Cut.
Every property gets a severity score based on the percentage of surface area covered by staining. We use four bands - but only the top two end up in your reports.
Little to no visible staining. This property does not need your services right now.
Some early discoloration. Visible but not enough to consistently convert into paid work.
Clear staining visible from satellite. Property owner likely notices it. High conversion opportunity.
Heavy staining across the surface. Unmissable. These are your highest-value prospects.
Why we filter out Clean and Mild
We would rather give you 20 leads you can close than 200 you cannot. Clean and Mild properties rarely convert - the homeowner either does not notice the staining or does not care enough to pay for cleaning. By filtering them out, every lead in your report represents a real sales opportunity.
What We Detect
Our detection classifies staining by type so you know what you are looking at before you show up.
Dark Streaks
Black streaks caused by Gloeocapsa magma (algae). Most common on asphalt shingle roofs. Appears as dark vertical runs.
Green Growth
Moss, mold, or algae buildup. Common on shaded roofs, north-facing surfaces, and concrete in humid climates.
Oil Stains
Dark spots on driveways and concrete surfaces from vehicle leaks. Detected as very dark patches on normally bright surfaces.
General Grime
Broad discoloration without a strong color signature. Dirt buildup, oxidation, and weathering that darkens surfaces over time.

Satellite Imagery
We use high-resolution satellite imagery at zoom level 21, which gives us roughly 7 to 15 centimeters per pixel. That is enough detail to detect individual stain patterns, moss patches, and discoloration across any exterior surface.
